WHO WE ARE

BUILDING

Founded in 2014, CriticalArc is a BCxA Certified Commissioning Firm based in California that thrives on large-scale projects in excess of $1B in construction volume.

CriticalArc was formed because we saw a need for a detail-oriented process run by technical people. Commissioning buildings had become a cumbersome process filled with outdated modalities. We have improved the transition from the construction of a building to the operations and use of a facility.

To do this, we have done away with paper by employing electronic technology and cloud-based interfaces that increase collaboration, lower costs and maximize transparency by allowing building owners and commissioning team members to access test results, deficiencies and key performance indicators in real-time. Our approach to commissioning is tailored for busy construction team members, executives and managers, providing useful project metrics and leading indicators, all while saving cost.

Our primary market segments are aviation and data center projects, as well as other large, challenging projects and program level undertakings. Our vision is to become the premiere commissioning provider in the nation.

ANALYZE

Early in the project, we will analyze the needs of the building owner and hold a charrette with all applicable stakeholders in order to develop an Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR). The OPR serves as the road map for building design and construction and is continually updated throughout the design and construction phases. All phases of the commissioning process reference back to the OPR.

CONFIRM

The design phase is all about confirming aspects of the design meet the Owner’s Project Requirements. This includes MEPF, building envelope, renewable energy systems and special systems. This is accomplished through early design reviews during which the evolution of the project is compared to the OPR.

VERIFY

During the construction phase, all equipment submittals are reviewed and system installations are inspected to verify they meet the requirements of the design documents and the OPR. This is a very important phase in which a detail-oriented commissioning authority can catch improper equipment selection and faulty installations while they can still be corrected with little to no cost impact.

VALIDATE

Finally, once each piece of equipment is started up under careful supervision of the Commissioning Authority, each piece of equipment and system is functionally tested to ensure the hardware and control systems operate as intended by the Owner’s Project Requirements and required by the engineering design.
